Acrobat Settings for Lawyers

January 9, 2014

We recommend taking the time to set up your preferences and settings in Acrobat. Doing so will save you time in the long run and allow you to quickly access the tools you use often. Here’s how to do so and some features we think you’ll find useful.

If you use Acrobat on a PC, go to Edit > Preferences or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + K (Control + K). If you use Acrobat on a Mac, go to Acrobat > Preferences or use the keyboard shortcut CMD + , (Command + Comma). Next, regardless of whether you’re working on a PC or a Mac, spend some time clicking around the area under Categories. Likely to be of use to you are the following features:

Commenting

Default options for commenting are usually what you want them to be. However, we do recommend that you select the box beside “Copy selected text into Highlight, Strikethrough, and Underline comment pop-ups”.

General Categories

We recommend turning on the “Use single-key accelerators to access tools”. This will allow you to use V to select text, U to highlight text, H to use the Hand tool and K to use the Stamp tool.
